A dog has 18 or more muscles in each ear, compared to a person, who only has 6. This means dogs can move each ear independently of each other, while humans cannot.<\/p>\n

The position of a dog’s ears are not only used for communication with other dogs and people, but also to pinpoint certain noises in their environment.<\/p>\n

A dog may detect noises in a frequency range of 60 – 45,000 Hz, whereas the range of human hearing is limited to around 20 – 24,000 Hz.<\/p>\n

There is a reason dogs do not enjoy going out in the rain, and it isn’t just because they may get wet. Water actually amplifies sound, making a rain storm uncomfortable to their hearing. This may be one explanation for storm phobia, as well.<\/p>\n
